Guidance and Counselling

The guidance counsellors’ work is especially concerned with three areas:

  • Personal and Social Development
  • Education and Subject support
  • Career Development

The aims of the guidance programme at CNOC MHUIRE GRANARD:

  • To assist each student in their personal development and to help them to know and accept themselves, including their strengths and weaknesses.
  • To support each student in following an educational path which is appropriate for them.
  • To support students who may be experiencing difficulties in their lives, at home and at school.
  • To help students in choosing and embarking on a career path which will be personally rewarding and will reflect their individual talents and values.

The Guidance Counsellor works as part of the Student Support team i.e. with Management, the Year Heads, tutors and SEN team. They contribute their specialist knowledge and counselling skills to assist colleagues and students. The Guidance Counsellor also assists in developing and delivering a whole school guidance programme across all year groups.

Students and Parents can fill in a referral form for guidance/ counselling.

Guide to filling out CAO form

The Central Applications Office (CAO) centrally processes applications for entry to the first year of all undergraduate courses in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Republic of Ireland.

Top tips for filling out your CAO form:

  • Know your deadlines!
  • Research your options/courses on QUALIFAX.ie or College Websites.
  • Choose your courses in GENUINE ORDER OF PREFERENCE
  • Don’t let points influence your decision, they fluctuate every year.
  • If in doubt, email your Career Guidance Counsellor to clarify your question!
