Music

Music is offered in Cnoc Mhuire for students to study at Junior Cycle level and at Leaving Certificate level. Students in Transition Year take on Music for the year whether they have studied Music at Junior Cycle or not. This gives students who may not have had an opportunity before to partake in musical events. The TY’s become the backbone of our School Choir and contribute to the various liturgies and events that happen throughout the year.

The Music department is supported by the School to offer an opportunity for students to take part in at least one musical showcase/event in their 5/6 years.

Here is a snapshot of some of the Musical productions that we have been treated to by our music students in the past decade under the musical direction of our very talented Head Music teacher Ms. Mills.

Cnoc Mhuire Ceili Band

We are also proud to facilitate the wonderful Cnoc Mhuire Ceili Band. This is a long-standing traditional Irish music group in the school that promotes students teaching other students as well as opportunities to perform at school events and showcases. The senior Ceili Band members have a major role to play in decision making and the teaching of the tunes in the group. We have been blessed by great leaders which have emerged through the Ceili Band. This year Ms. Igoe has taken over the role as the teacher/facilitator of the group with her wonderful fiddle playing skills.
