Sports

The school has a proud history in sport and have competed admirably in recent years winning numerous Leinster titles and reaching the penultimate stages of All-Ireland competition.

Teachers coach teams in Boys and Girls Gaelic Football, Boys and Girls’Basketball at local and national level.

In addition, lunchtime activities include athletics club, table tennis, badminton, volleyball and soccer tournaments. One of the highlights of the sporting year is the annual sports day where students take part in a series of athletic and novelty events.

Football

In football, teams are fielded in boys and girls U14, U16 and U18 football. A number of students at senior level are selected each year to play at county level.

Basketball

In basketball the school fields teams at 1st year, 2nd year, U 16 and U19 level for both boys and girls. Students can also be selected to play for the regional team. The school has a sports hall, a football pitch as well as five tennis/basketball courts.

Rugby

For the past few years, Rugby for Boys/ Girls has been introduced to Cnoc Mhuire. The Girls have competed in the Leinster Sevens competitions for the past four years. A new competition, the Karen Lennon Cup, is a Longford schools 15 a- side tournament. Cnoc Mhuire are the current Karen Lennon Cup holders with a thrilling 34 -31 final win over Longford Convent in the Final. Current Transition Year Student, Fainche Higgins, has gained representative honours with Ulster Rugby and narrowly missed out on The Irish U-18 Squad for the Six Nations. The Boys compete in the Longford Schools tournament facilitated by Longford RFC at both Junior and Senior level while also competing in Regional blitzes run by Leinster Rugby.

Athletics Club

Our school actively promotes Cross Country and Track & Field. known for its energy and inclusivity, this is one of the most popular clubs in our school. Students from all grades actively engage, fostering teamwork, discipline, and personal growth. Beyond current success, the club is driven by an ambitious vision, aiming to create an environment where the talent of all participants is realised.
